The circle of the hisory…

The history of the Sherpas reminds us to the first mountain guides in the Valais. About 200 years ago, in the golden age of the alpinisme, the first English came to our alpine valleys to climb the unclimbed peaks of 3000 and 4000 meters. They were looking for young and strong men in the villages who served them as porters, but then also as guiding companions. Out of that originated the first Mountain guides in Switzerland. Many of them became famous although rarely as famous as the English alpinists. They could earn a decent living but many of them also lost their life. The first mountain guides substantially contributed to the touristic development of the alpine region.

The anology to the present situation of the Sherpas and other mounain nations are clearly visible.
