The knowledge in the English language shall increase the independence of the Sherpas enabling a better communication with their guests.

A good communication and understanding of the language can save lifes during expeditions. Based on missunderstandings between Sherpas and tourists or expediton teams, there have been missinterpretations which caused accidents.

The Swiss Sherpa Foundation supports Sherpas and porters in Tansania in their education with payed English lessons.
